First of two meetings on Upper Merion data center plan to be held Wednesday

The plan, which includes eight data centers covering 4.6 million square feet, faces significant opposition from residents concerned about noise, heat, and other environmental impacts. Over 8,000 people have signed a petition against the development.
The Upper Merion Planning Commission in Pennsylvania is holding two final public meetings this week regarding a proposed massive data center project by MLP Ventures, led by Brian O’Neill. The extensive development, which would encompass eight data centers totaling 4.6 million square feet—an area larger than Philadelphia International Airport—has generated significant local opposition.
Over 8,000 residents have signed a petition against the plan, expressing concerns about its potential impact on the community and environment, specifically citing issues like noise pollution and increased heat. At a previous meeting in May, residents like Chloe Dashner and Vincent Barrett vocalized frustration over what they perceived as evasive answers from developers regarding environmental effects.
O’Neill has defended the project, asserting that MLP Ventures will comply with all regulations and that the data centers would not negatively affect the environment, traffic, or noise levels. The first hearing for the 1.6 million square foot and 450,000 square foot data centers is scheduled for Wednesday evening at Upper Merion Middle School in King of Prussia, with a second hearing on other project elements set for Thursday, August 13, 2026.
