Logan County leaders are revisiting data center regulations as new applications from Hut 8 move forward, especially after a previously enacted 12-month moratorium was deemed invalid. Residents voiced strong opposition and demanded a public vote on data centers, though officials stated this is not an option. The county is considering new ordinances, but existing applications, like Hut 8's, may not be subject to them.

Logan County leaders are re-evaluating data center regulations following the determination that a 12-month moratorium was invalid. This re-evaluation comes as new applications, specifically from Hut 8, are progressing through the county's approval process.

Residents, including Dayton Keyes, expressed strong frustration at a Logan County Zoning and Economic Development meeting, demanding protection from their local government and questioning why the invalidity of the moratorium was only recently addressed. Keyes also requested that data center projects be put to a community vote, a suggestion that Chairman Gil Turner dismissed as not permitted by county code or law.

Zoning officer Allan Green confirmed that two new applications have been submitted. He noted that due to the timing of Hut 8's application submission, it would not be subject to any new ordinances that are subsequently passed. Hut 8's application is scheduled for discussion at an upcoming zoning board meeting on August 5th.

The county currently lacks a specific data center ordinance, prompting the consideration of new regulations amidst resident concerns and pending projects.
