Development plans for Project Jupiter, a massive data center in southern New Mexico, have stalled after the state land office denied multiple permit applications. The denials were linked to environmental concerns over an expected 14 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually and public opposition.

Development plans for Project Jupiter, a large data center proposed for southern New Mexico, have encountered a significant hurdle. The state's land office has rejected five permit applications for the project, including a crucial request to construct a portion of a 17-mile natural gas pipeline on state-owned land.

This pipeline was intended to supply fuel to the data center. The proposed facility has faced considerable public opposition due to its projected yearly emissions of 14 million tons of greenhouse gases. The state land office has advised the applicant to seek an alternative pipeline route that avoids state trust lands.
