Lexington council passes data center moratorium

Lexington, Kentucky's council approved a temporary moratorium on data center development, giving the body time to examine and review the regulation processing and impact of data centers for Fayette County. The measure was proposed by 5th District Councilwoman Liz Sheehan.
Mayor Linda Gorton issued a statement emphasizing that data centers do not produce many jobs and have the potential to increase utility costs, among other concerns. She also refused to support public incentives for a data center proposed for the area. This decision follows the acquisition of the former Lexmark building on West New Circle Road by Dark Points.
