Cherokee County Commissioners extend data center moratorium
Cherokee County Commissioners have extended a 30-day moratorium on data center developments by another six months. This extension will allow county staff more time to research and develop appropriate regulations for future data center projects. Currently, the county has no data center applications on hold.
The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners recently voted to extend a temporary halt on data center developments. The initial 30-day moratorium has been prolonged for an additional six months, granting county staff more time to conduct research and formulate comprehensive regulations for data centers. The decision aims to proactively address the impact and management of such facilities within the county.
According to reports from Channel Two, Cherokee County currently does not have any pending applications for data center projects. This move by the Commissioners aligns with similar actions taken by several other counties across Georgia, which have also implemented moratoriums to consider the implications of data center growth.
