Bloomington city officials, including the mayor and city manager, hosted a public discussion to gather community opinions on data center development. Residents were asked to complete a form, which showed overwhelmingly negative sentiment towards data centers, and were invited to make public comments. Many voiced concerns about potential negative impacts, specifically citing waste, noise, light pollution, declining quality of life, and the loss of agricultural land. The most significant concern raised was the substantial water usage by data centers. Resident Thomas Garverick questioned the decision to sacrifice irreplaceable farmland and critical water resources for an industry that does not directly sustain the community. In response to these concerns, many residents are advocating for a moratorium on data center development within Bloomington. Another public session was scheduled for later the same evening at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts.
