The Fayette County Area Plan Commission has recommended a 12-month moratorium on considering new data centers. This pause is intended to allow the commission to gather information and develop comprehensive zoning regulations for future data center proposals. The decision comes despite there being no immediate data center projects planned for the county.

During a public hearing, Chris Maresh, the sole public commentator, addressed the Fayette County Area Plan Commission (APC) regarding a proposed 12-month moratorium on data center considerations. The APC, in less than half an hour, unanimously recommended this one-year pause. The purpose of the moratorium is to provide the county with time to research and establish appropriate zoning standards and regulations for data centers. This preemptive measure is being taken even though there are currently no data center projects on the horizon for Fayette County, as the APC aims to be prepared should such proposals emerge in the future.
