Project Jupiter leaders show construction progress on data center
Oracle officials provided a tour of Project Jupiter, a 1,400-acre data center development under construction in Dona Ana County. The project will use a microgrid, closed-loop cooling systems and recirculated non-potable industrial water to address community concerns about energy and water impacts.
Oracle officials invited KRQE inside Project Jupiter in Dona Ana County, offering a look at construction of the 1,400-acre data center development. Mahesh Thiagarajan said the project could generate at least $13 billion in economic benefits for New Mexico and will include four primary data center buildings.
The development is planned to use a microgrid with about 7,000 clean-energy fuel cells. In response to concerns about water use, Oracle said the facility will rely on non-potable industrial well water that will be recirculated through closed-loop cooling systems. The site will also include retention ponds designed for a 300-year flood, while Oracle is developing a third-party-reviewed dashboard to report water use, noise and other resource consumption.
