Google has released further details regarding its "Project Raptor campus," a proposed hyperscale data center set for construction on approximately 2,800 acres southwest of Wichita Falls in Archer County, Texas. Archer County Judge Randall Jackson confirmed receipt of the documents, which outline a potential $1 billion capital investment and the creation of 50 full-time jobs, with less than 1,000 workers during peak construction.
The project requires significant infrastructure upgrades, including considerable reconstruction of Three Way Road and potential full-depth reconstruction of FM 2224, pending input from TxDOT. Google has also requested 1,000 MW of power, which awaits approval from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
Judge Jackson noted that while the information is a "start," the county's Commissioners’ Court desires more public details, emphasizing that Archer County advocates for its own interests, not Google's. The proposed development has already garnered public opposition, evidenced by a Facebook page named "Stop the Archer County Data Center," which emerged shortly after initial project rumors.
