Cass County residents learn more about proposed Harmony Energy Park data center
Residents of Harmony Township in Cass County learned more about Geronimo Power's proposed 640-acre Harmony Energy Park, which would include two data center buildings. Township officials are preparing to hold a public hearing and vote on a proposed 24-month moratorium covering data centers and renewable energy facilities.
Cass County residents gathered in Wheatland to discuss Harmony Energy Park, a proposed 640-acre powered data park in Harmony Township. Geronimo Power CEO and President Blake Nixon said the project would include two data center buildings, remain at least a mile from homes, and preserve about 80% of the property as green space.
The project has prompted questions about rural development, community impacts and the appearance of industrial facilities. The discussion comes as Harmony Township considers a 24-month moratorium on construction of data centers and solar and wind energy facilities, with a public hearing and proposed vote scheduled for Oct. 22. A separate North Dakota State University forum will examine how data center growth could affect the state's power grid, electricity rates and local communities.
