Anniston council puts brakes on data centers with 12-month moratorium

The Anniston City Council, including Councilwoman Julie Moss, Mayor Ciara Smith-Roston, Councilman Joe Harrington, Councilwoman Erica Tolson, and Councilman Lewis Downing, unanimously approved a 12-month moratorium on data centers at its recent meeting. The decision was made to allow city officials to develop appropriate zoning and development standards for data centers.

During the packed meeting, residents voiced concerns about speeding, abandoned properties, mosquitoes, traffic calming, sidewalks, and transparency. In addition to the data center moratorium, the council also approved federal housing plans, budget amendments, and seven public nuisance resolutions.
