The Fayetteville City Council held an agenda session to review a proposed ordinance introducing new regulations for future data centers within the city. The discussion comes amidst concerns regarding the significant strain data centers can place on city water resources and the electrical grid.

While council members indicated no large data center projects are currently being proposed in Fayetteville, Council member Scott Burna emphasized the importance of establishing regulations proactively. Burna stated that setting clear criteria would allow the city to protect its residents and infrastructure by defining the requirements data centers must meet to operate in Fayetteville, should a project be proposed in the future.

A possible vote on the proposed ordinance is anticipated around June 16.
