Davidson County adopts stricter data center rules, rejects moratorium
Davidson County commissioners rejected a proposed moratorium on data center development in a 5-2 vote. Instead, they approved stricter rules for future data centers in unincorporated parts of the county, addressing noise, water and power use, and environmental impacts.
Davidson County commissioners voted 5-2 to reject a proposed data center moratorium and approve new restrictions on future facilities in unincorporated areas. The rules were developed after county staff spent months studying the issue and will address noise pollution, water consumption, power use and environmental effects.
Commissioner Matt Mizell said adopting firm standards early could help the county avoid problems experienced elsewhere. Some residents continued to call for a moratorium, citing unresolved concerns including wildlife impacts, but no data center proposals have been submitted in the county so far.
