St. Bernard puts 12-month pause on new data center developments
St. Bernard Council has approved a 12-month moratorium on new data center developments to study their community impact. However, a proposed 150,000 square-foot data center project at the former Ivorydale facility, which applied before the moratorium, will still be considered by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
St. Bernard Council has enacted a 12-month moratorium on new data center developments, allowing the village to study their community impact. Mark Wendling, Director of Planning and Service, stated this pause provides time to understand these facilities' effects.
However, a specific 150,000 square-foot data center project at the former Ivorydale facility, slated for 24 megawatts of capacity, will still proceed through the approval process. An unnamed outside company, represented by attorney Thomas Bridenstine, had already submitted its zoning application prior to the moratorium's passage.
The Board of Zoning Appeals is set to review this proposal. Wendling acknowledged the site's uncertain future but indicated the moratorium allows for the exploration of alternative uses beyond a data center.
