Pittsylvania County leaders recently hosted a community meeting to address local residents' concerns regarding the proposed AI data center project at the Berry Hill Mega Site. Stack Infrastructure is slated to develop this major data center within the next two decades. Vic Ingram, a member of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, noted that the meeting was prompted by questions from his constituents. Residents voiced worries about the county's capacity to manage the anticipated growth, specifically citing potential issues with increased traffic congestion and housing demand. Matt Rowe, Pittsylvania County Economic Development Director, responded to questions, including those about water usage and electricity. Rowe assured residents that the Dan River has sufficient water resources for such developments and clarified that the data center, being on Appalachian Power's grid and not Danville Utilities, would not impact local electric bills for Danville customers. He also mentioned an agreement between Appalachian Power and Stack Infrastructure for the company to cover energy-related costs. Despite the concerns, Rowe emphasized the substantial economic impact of the project, projecting an investment of 73 billion dollars and the creation of 2050 full-time jobs, not including construction workers.
