TCEQ shuts down online permit filing system
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality temporarily disabled its online permit filing system so staff can identify applications related to data centers. The move follows complaints that the agency approved data center permits despite Gov. Greg Abbott’s order pausing such permits while the state reviews their water and power needs.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has temporarily suspended its automated online permit filing system. Applicants must submit paperwork in person so agency staff can determine whether filings concern data center projects.
The action follows complaints from watchdog groups that TCEQ approved data center construction permits despite Gov. Greg Abbott’s order to pause such approvals. TCEQ said it has suspended permits identified by the groups, while state officials review data centers’ water consumption and electricity requirements.
