The Morgan County Board held a well-attended meeting, where much time was dedicated to zoning control and a proposed solar project. Peter Yannikockas of Solar Generation of New York, whose office is based in St. Louis, presented a plan for a nearly 5-megawatt community solar plant near Chapin, to be built on 24 acres leased from the Shireman family. The board unanimously approved the memorandum of understanding for this project, addressing audience concerns about vegetation screenings and decommissioning. However, the largest segment of the crowd attended to hear discussions on a planned six-month review process concerning data centers and other rural development. This review indicates a proactive approach by the county to manage the growth of such facilities. The commissioners also approved new salaries for the sheriff, county commissioner, clerk, and treasurer, with these salaries being state-mandated. Additionally, the board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Central Illinois Land Bank Authority, complementing an existing agreement with the Two Rivers Land Bank.
