HDF Energy Selects Topsoe for 250 MW Power Plant in Texas
HDF Energy selected Topsoe to supply hydrogen-production and carbon-capture technology for a planned 250 MW power plant in West Texas. The facility is intended to provide firm, lower-carbon electricity directly to data centers in the Permian Basin beginning in 2030.
HDF Energy plans to develop a 250 MW BaseBlue Power plant in West Texas to supply reliable electricity to data centers. The project will use natural gas to produce hydrogen through Topsoe's SynCOR autothermal reforming technology, capture and compress the resulting carbon dioxide, and generate power through proton exchange membrane fuel cells.
HDF Energy selected Topsoe as the technology licensor, with Topsoe providing process design, engineering, equipment and catalysts. HDF Energy Vice President for the US and Caribbean Thibault Menage said the system is intended to address data centers' need for dependable, lower-carbon power, while Topsoe Americas Managing Director Henrik Rasmussen described the project as the first use of SynCOR technology for a data-center power application. The plant is planned to begin serving data centers in 2030, although no specific facility or final site was identified.
