
Ownbey: Suit over data center meets 90-day window
Waverly-area residents have filed a lawsuit against Sangamon County and its Board, seeking to overturn the approval of a CyrusOne data center project. The lawsuit was filed on July 6, the last day within the 90-day window allowed by Illinois zoning law following the April 7 county board approval. The residents live within a mile of the approved data center site.
Waverly-area residents have initiated legal action against Sangamon County and the Sangamon County Board, aiming to reverse the board's decision to approve a data center project by CyrusOne. Michelle Ownbey, executive editor of Springfield Business Journal, reported on the lawsuit during her weekly appearance on WTAX Morning Newswatch.
The lawsuit was filed on July 6, strategically within the 90-day period stipulated by Illinois zoning law for judicial review of county board zoning decisions. The Sangamon County Board had initially approved the data center project on April 7. The residents who filed the suit reside less than a mile from the proposed data center site.
