Howard Hoff was reportedly overcome with emotion and unable to deliver a planned statement at a news conference, highlighting the community's distress. Residents expressed concerns about safety and access, noting that construction traffic, including a semi-truck overturning in May, blocked North Platte Road and created a hazardous situation for those needing to leave their homes during emergencies.
In response, the City of Independence maintains that all approvals and processes for the data center project were conducted legally. Nebius, identified as the European-based developer, issued a statement affirming its commitment to complying with all regulations.
