The Hermantown City Council unanimously approved an Alternative Urban Areawide Review for Google’s proposed data center. The environmental review will examine how different development scenarios could affect the area before construction begins and allows Google to formally propose the project to the city.

Councilors also considered an environmental review for a Minnesota Power transmission line that would provide power to the data center. After lengthy public comment, the council delayed that vote until 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
