Kurt Glazier, a candidate for the Whiteside County Board’s District 1 seat, said he has pushed for a two- to three-year moratorium on data centers in the county. He said officials should study developments elsewhere before deciding how to regulate projects and avoid repeating other counties’ mistakes.

Glazier also expressed concern that data centers could strain the county’s vulnerable electrical system, particularly as coal and natural-gas generation is reduced. He said the county should consider residents’ health and safety concerns and support people who do not want data centers in the area, while continuing to promote business growth under local rules.
