Federal Aviation Officials are investigating two drone incidents reported at the Eastern Iowa Airport, potentially connected to nearby data center construction. Pilots reported seeing a drone in their landing path yesterday morning around 10:45 AM, although both planes landed safely.

The investigation led officials to a QTS data center construction site, where two drone operators working for contractors were identified. Licensed drone pilot Kyle Fuller, who conducts real estate and advertising work, emphasized the importance of training and licensing, which includes learning about air maps and restricted areas. He noted that while older drones might not take off near airports, newer models from companies like DJI place the responsibility on pilots to ensure they are not flying in restricted zones.

The Eastern Iowa Airport confirmed that the Federal Aviation Administration's investigation into these unauthorized drone activities is ongoing.
