Hamilton Township adopts data center moratorium
The Hamilton Township Committee in New Jersey has adopted an ordinance that places a moratorium on data center development. This decision was made as officials continue to research issues related to data centers. The committee previously approved an agreement with Amazon for a fulfillment center, distinct from data center projects.
The Hamilton Township Committee in New Jersey has enacted an ordinance establishing a moratorium on data centers within the township. The committee adopted the measure at its Monday meeting, indicating that the pause in development will allow officials to conduct further research into the issue.
Separately, the Hamilton Township Committee had previously approved a 29-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) agreement with Amazon for a fulfillment center. This Amazon project is located at the former Atlantic City Race Course, but the moratorium specifically addresses data center developments, not fulfillment centers.
