Residents in Brazoria County say noise from a Bitcoin mining facility next to their home violates promises made by Giga Energy. Giga Energy sold the facility to PM Squared Financial, whose representative declined to discuss the noise, while state officials continue reviewing data center electricity and water-use information.

Melissa and Wesley Bernett of Brazoria County say a low-frequency hum from a Bitcoin mining facility next to their property has disrupted their home life. Giga Energy co-founder Brent Whitehead previously promised that the company would study the noise and install a sound barrier, but later said Giga Energy was no longer responsible because it had sold the facility. The company identified PM Squared Financial, led by CEO Phil Stanley, as the current owner.

Stanley initially agreed to speak with KPRC reporter Amy Davis but canceled, citing company policy against discussing ongoing projects. The report says the Bernetts remain without the promised sound study or noise barrier and have limited avenues for accountability because the commitments were not legally binding.

The segment also examines a statewide pause on connecting data centers to the Texas power grid while ERCOT audits facilities awaiting interconnection, following instructions from Gov. Greg Abbott. Construction can continue during the review, as illustrated by Project Eagle in Wharton County, while the Public Utility Commission of Texas has withheld some information about facility locations and water suppliers under the Texas Homeland Security Act.
