Clinton deems data center application incomplete
The Clinton Township Planning Commission declared Linde Corporation's data center application incomplete, citing deficiencies in sewage disposal, viewshed analysis, and documentation of historic resources. The decision, met with public applause, requires Linde Corporation to address these issues before re-submission. An emergency meeting is scheduled to determine additional required items.
The Clinton Township Planning Commission at its June 3 meeting declared the data center application submitted by Linde Corporation to be incomplete, a decision met with cheers from the public in attendance. The application, which includes plans for 20 data center buildings, two power plants, and associated infrastructure, was initially submitted on April 30.
The commission cited four sections of the Clinton Township Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO) that the application failed to meet. These included requirements for sewage disposal planning, a comprehensive viewshed analysis, and an overview of historic resources and significant natural features on the property. An attorney representing the public, Tom Wyatt, specifically questioned whether a "will-serve" letter from the Lackawanna River Basin Sewer Authority met the necessary PA Sewage Facilities Act requirements, emphasizing the need for a full sewage plan and an Industrial Pretreatment Program permit.
Following the decision, Linde Corporation President Scott Linde expressed appreciation for the opportunity to inform others about the project's planning and its potential for a "net positive outcome." The planning commission has scheduled an emergency meeting for June 8 to discuss further requirements under SALDO's "additional information" section, after which an official letter of deficiencies will be issued for re-submission.
