Data Centers Split Vote
The Piscataway Township Council held a first reading vote on an ordinance to prevent a data center from being built on a specific commercial parcel at 30 Knightsbridge Road. The measure passed with a 5-2 split vote, moving forward with a second reading and final vote scheduled for later in the fall. The proposed redevelopment plan, which underwent its first of two readings, aims to allow other commercial developments that would generate business income for the town while excluding data centers.
During the council meeting, the measure passed with a split vote of five members in favor and two against. Council members Leibowitz and Rashid voted no, advocating for all commercial options, including a data center, to remain on the table. However, the majority vote prevailed, allowing the measure to move forward. A second and final vote on the ordinance is anticipated later in the fall.
