Residents in Bristol, Indiana, packed a town hall meeting to protest the annexation of 500 acres of farmland. The opposition stems from fears that the newly annexed land could attract data center development, raising concerns about environmental impact, water usage, noise, and declining property values. Despite widespread community objections, the town council approved the annexation.

Residents of Bristol, Indiana, expressed significant concern and opposition during a town hall meeting regarding the annexation of nearly 500 acres of farmland. Many attendees carried signs saying "say no to annexation," and nearly every speaker during the two-hour public comment session voiced their objections.
The primary fear driving this opposition is the potential for the annexed land, located off County Road 19, to become a site for data center development. Community members raised concerns about the environmental impact, increased water usage, and potential decline in property values. Madeleine Thomas, a community member, articulated worries that the decision could benefit a few while negatively impacting the livelihoods of many.
Despite the community's anxieties and the fears of data center development, the Bristol Town Council approved the annexation. Bristol town council president Jeff Beachy stated that the decision brings future decision-making power into the hands of town officials, allowing them to implement regulations such as noise ordinances (e.g., capping at 65 decibels), dark sky lighting, and sound barriers to mitigate potential issues from any future development.
