Decatur Begins Process to Establish Data Center Overlay District
Decatur officials have begun drafting a Data Center Overlay District for the 529-acre Eagles Landing Business Park. The proposed zoning rules would establish data-center-specific requirements intended to conserve resources and limit impacts on nearby areas before possible City Council adoption later this year.
Decatur city staff presented a preliminary ordinance to establish a Data Center Overlay District at Eagles Landing Business Park, a 529-acre development associated with the Decatur Economic Development Corp. The property is located near U.S. 81/287, Business U.S. 81/287 and Farm Road 2264.
The proposed district would create data-center-specific zoning requirements focused on resource conservation and protecting surrounding areas from potential impacts. Staff will continue refining the ordinance, which must go before the Planning and Zoning Commission before returning to the Decatur City Council for possible adoption later in 2026.
