A proposed data center project in Boulder City, Nevada, held a three-hour public meeting at City Hall to address local concerns. Residents voiced strong opposition regarding the facility's potential impact on water consumption, heat output, and power usage. Before the meeting, neighbors had already initiated a petition and displayed signs opposing the development, prompting local political figures, including gubernatorial candidates, to weigh in. Rick Lammers, manager for the facility and representative for developer Townsite Solar, presented solutions such as air cooling, evaporative cooling with less water usage, and exhausting heat 400-500 feet into the air. He also noted the 88-acre project is expected to create 40 long-term jobs. However, resident Delineate expressed dissatisfaction, citing concerns about the proposed 300,000 gallons of water for a closed-loop system and a 90-year lease agreement with a 2% annual increase. Townsite Solar plans to host more meetings to address these ongoing concerns.
