QTS responds to Bessemer mayor about data center
QTS asked Bessemer Mayor Louise Alexander to postpone a meeting about its proposed data center after local property owners raised concerns. The company said it has no plans to expand the campus, that nearby home purchases are voluntary, and that site development is proceeding under permits approved by the city.
QTS asked newly elected Bessemer Mayor Louise Alexander to postpone an October 23 meeting concerning the company’s proposed data center, saying it wanted to better understand the administration’s questions before rescheduling. The request followed reports about concerns from nearby property owners and QTS’s acquisition of homes near the project site.
In a letter from Chief External Affairs Officer Theo Yedinsky, QTS said it had no plans to expand the campus and that home purchases were voluntary. The company said acquired homes would remain residential and could house project employees, while development was proceeding under permits approved by the City of Bessemer. QTS also highlighted an $8 million investment in the Bessemer Built Scholarship Program and said it had not sought city tax incentives.
