Winchester to consider 1-year data center moratorium

The city of Winchester, Kentucky, is contemplating a one-year moratorium on new data center projects. City Manager Michael Flynn and Planning & Community Development Director Robert Jeffries recommended the pause to the city commission.
According to a letter from Jeffries, the county planning commission's attorney, Robert Gullette, raised concerns about the absence of specific zoning districts and regulations tailored for data centers within the current framework. The proposed moratorium aims to provide city and county leadership with a dedicated period to thoroughly assess and update existing regulations and zoning laws to address future data center developments. Despite these discussions, City Manager Flynn confirmed that Winchester has not yet received any formal proposals for data center construction.
