xAI gets air permit for unauthorized gas turbines

xAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, has received a Clean Air Act permit from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality to generate 1.2 gigawatts of power on-site using natural gas turbines at its Southaven, Mississippi data center. However, the data center was already operating roughly 20 turbines before the permit was issued, leading to accusations that it was breaking federal clean air rules. Environmental groups have threatened to sue over the permitting decision.
