As debate intensifies over a proposed hyperscale data center known as Project Tango in western Palm Beach County, some residents are asking a basic question: What exactly is an AI data center? The issue has become a flashpoint locally after packed public meetings, protests and growing online organizing against the project planned near the Arden community and Saddle View Elementary School. During a recent town hall meeting, tensions ran high as residents voiced concerns about the scale of the proposed facility. “What if your data center burns to the ground? We breathe it — your animals breathe it — that’s just toxic pollution. It doesn’t belong here,” one resident said during public comment. At a county meeting this week, resident Rachel Smith told commissioners thousands of people oppose the proposal and say key questions remain unanswered.
