Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley supports data centers, opposes moratorium

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley has publicly declared his strong support for developing Wisconsin into a global data and AI hub, directly opposing any moratoriums on data center construction. Crowley emphasized the state's potential for significant investment and technological advancement, stating he does not believe a moratorium "would actually work."

This position contrasts with that of State Representative Francesca Hong, who has advocated for a moratorium on data centers. Crowley clarified that while he supports data centers, he believes local governments should have the authority to amend or reject agreements and that data centers should "pay their own way."

Republican Congressman Tom Tiffany has also weighed in, criticizing the current approach and advocating for an end to state subsidies for data centers, which he argues contribute to rising utility rates. Tiffany also called for increased transparency by banning non-disclosure agreements related to data center projects, contrasting Crowley's perceived "blank check" approach. Crowley, however, expressed a desire for "guardrails" on data centers, particularly concerning land and water protection.
