The Plain City Village Council has announced a public hearing for June 8, 2026, to consider a new set of zoning regulations for data centers. The proposed rules are part of a broader effort to update the village's zoning code and are intended to govern how data center facilities are constructed and operated within the village limits. According to Mayor Jody Carney, who spoke at the April 27 meeting, staff have been working to update sections of the code to better reflect community needs. Village planners have characterized the proposed data center zoning updates as among the most stringent in the region. Should the village Planning Commission approve these changes, they will then be forwarded to the village council for further review and a final decision. In total, 14 different zoning amendments are being prepared for public review, covering various aspects from residential setbacks to business district definitions.
