‘Probably no chance’: Beatrice Mayor addresses concerns over possible data center

Beatrice, Nebraska, Mayor Bob Morgan recently addressed community concerns regarding the potential establishment of a new data center in the city. Mayor Morgan largely dismissed the likelihood of a major data center, such as those operated by Google or other AI companies, coming to Beatrice. He cited the high cost of transporting electricity to the city and the insufficient size of Beatrice's Industrial Park as primary obstacles. Morgan contrasted this with the city's existing data center, Radiant Tech, LLC, which he described as a "win-win" situation. Radiant Tech utilizes the city's electrical energy without drawing power during peak demand, which Morgan stated helps distribute costs and maintain stable electricity rates for Nebraska residents. He emphasized that the city's priority is to protect its power and water resources for future generations, indicating that any development that jeopardizes these resources would not be pursued.
