Taylor City Council unanimously approved an agreement to annex the 664-acre Taylor Technology Campus, formerly known as Project Mustang, bringing the proposed data center and on-site power generation project between FM 112 and U.S. 79 within the city limits. The development is being pursued by Big Watt Digital and PowerHouse Data Centers and includes $28.2 million in commitments for city programs, schools and local nonprofits.

The project had been delayed after residents raised concerns about noise, water use, infrastructure and neighborhood impacts, prompting the developers to withdraw earlier annexation and zoning requests. The new agreement establishes requirements for water use, noise, lighting and setbacks. The advocacy group Halt Taylor Data Centers and other residents continue to oppose the campus, while city officials say annexation will give Taylor greater oversight and could generate an estimated $1.38 billion in tax revenue over 20 years.
