Data center developers to help Colorado City with water issues
Three data center companies, Cipher Digital, Fluidstack, and Anthropic, have pledged $10 million to help Colorado City, Texas, improve its water system. The funding will address chronic water outages and shortages caused by aging infrastructure. A new nonprofit, the Colorado City Water Infrastructure Foundation, will manage the funds in partnership with city leaders.
Three data center companies, Cipher Digital, Fluidstack, and Anthropic, have committed a combined $10 million to enhance Colorado City, Texas's water system. This initiative follows severe water shortages and chronic outages experienced by the city's residents this past summer, attributed to aging infrastructure and storm damage.
The pledged funds will support critical upgrades identified by Colorado City leaders, including increasing water storage capacity and replacing old valves. The companies will oversee these funds through the newly established Colorado City Water Infrastructure Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated solely to serving the city's water needs. The foundation will work in close coordination with the Colorado City Council, Mayor Ruben Hurt, City Manager Donna Madrid, and the city's contracted engineers.
Mayor Ruben Hurt praised the companies, stating their contribution demonstrates their commitment as good neighbors. Tyler Page, CEO of Cipher Digital, and Kate Franko, Public Affairs Lead at Fluidstack, both emphasized their companies' dedication to supporting the communities where they operate. Ryan Wilson, Head of Economic Development for Anthropic, highlighted that communities hosting AI infrastructure should benefit from its presence, affirming the companies' commitment to funding the city's identified water system needs.
