Data centers can provide significant tax revenue for local governments, but may create fewer long-term jobs than many residents expect, according to a new study examining the impact of the facilities on Michigan communities.
It's a debate that is popping up all across Northern Michigan: to allow a data center or not.
On Tuesday, a policy group released its five-month-long look into data centers and shared what they think every community should take into consideration before making a data center decision.
“Data centers have obviously been the hot issue throughout Michigan,” Citizens Research Council of Michigan President Eric Lupher said.
A hot issue, with communities and commissioners debating and discussing, often with a lot of division, confusion, and unanswered questions.
