Thoughts on the Data Center Issue from the Chair of the Chillicothe Committee
Chillicothe Engineering Committee Chair Kathy Dunn discussed the proposed data center at the former Chilpaco site, including concerns about construction traffic, noise, electricity demand and water use. She said a revised moratorium was sent to the city law director for review, while longer-term controls should be established through zoning.
Chillicothe Engineering Committee Chair Kathy Dunn discussed the city’s continuing review of a proposed data center at the former Chilpaco site following a City Council session and committee meetings. Attorney Brodi J. Conover of Bricker Graydon Wyatt Attorneys briefed council members on data center issues, while residents voiced opposition during the meetings.
Dunn cited potential construction traffic, noise, electricity-related rate increases, water consumption and wastewater demands as concerns. She said a proposed revised moratorium, which would exclude the Chilpaco property while pausing data center development elsewhere, was forwarded to the law director for review. Dunn argued that lasting controls should be created through comprehensive zoning rather than a site-specific measure, while acknowledging the need to balance economic development and public safety.
