PREVIEW: Data center back on Prosper zoning agenda
The Prosper Planning and Zoning Commission is set to consider Project Tomahawk, a proposed data center by White Rose Partners, on September 1. The developer plans to mitigate power, water, and noise impacts, while town staff have received significant opposition from residents. The project requires rezoning the property from agricultural to planned development.
The Prosper Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to review a data center proposal, Project Tomahawk, on September 1, after the item was removed from an earlier agenda to allow town staff more review time. White Rose Partners, the developer, seeks to rezone 37.3 acres near FM 1385 and Parvin Road from agricultural to planned development to permit the facility. David Hoover, Prosper's director of Development Services, noted that the 225,000-square-foot facility would occupy about 20% of the property.
The developers have outlined plans on their website to mitigate potential impacts, including designing the center to reduce power demands and water use through a closed-loop system, as well as incorporating sound-dampening screens and greenery. The site is adjacent to a Brazos Electric Power Cooperative substation, and White Rose Partners committed to funding any necessary upgrades. Town staff anticipate the data center will generate less traffic than other potential uses and create 20-50 full-time jobs.
Since its initial announcement, Project Tomahawk has garnered 34 comments in opposition and one in support. Of the negative comments, 11 came from Prosper residents, with others from nearby communities like Celina, Aubrey, and Little Elm. After the Planning and Zoning Commission makes its recommendation, the Prosper Town Council will render the final decision on the project.
