The proposed "Project Flash" data center in Franklin County, Virginia, has been canceled, a development that shocked and relieved community members. The announcement came after a community meeting at the Scrugs Volunteer Fire Department, where over 100 county residents gathered to discuss the potential impacts of a data center at Summit View Business Park.

Concerns revolved around the project's implications for natural resources, electricity, and the overall quality of life in the area. Holland Purdue, Mayor of Rocky Mount and a county resident, stated that such a data center was not the right investment for Franklin County, emphasizing that what makes sense in Northern Virginia does not necessarily apply to Franklin County. The Franklin County Community Coalition, which had been working for nearly six months to stop the project, hailed the decision as a significant achievement. However, they stressed that their fight is not entirely over, vowing to remain vigilant and noting recent positive changes within local government operations.
