Officials in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, are poised to finally vote this week on a highly controversial data center proposal known as the "Packs One Project" in Middlesex Township. The decision follows a series of unpredictable twists and turns that have seen multiple meetings related to the project rescheduled.
Initially, the Middlesex Township commissioners were slated to vote on the proposal on August 5th. However, the meeting was packed with concerned neighbors and was subsequently pushed to August 19th and moved to the larger Middlesex Elementary gym. That meeting also reached standing-room-only capacity, and as opponents vocally expressed their concerns, it ended abruptly when Township solicitor Keith Brennaman fell ill.
On the following Friday, the board met early to address unrelated issues, including a supervisor's resignation. Residents, committed to showing up at every township meeting to maintain pressure, also attended this session. This week's critical meeting, with the Packs One Project at its forefront for potential votes, has been relocated once more to an even larger venue: the Cumberland Valley High School Performing Arts Center.
