Residents met at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship church in Statesboro to coordinate opposition to a proposed data center. Organizers said a lawsuit has been filed over whether the project’s special-use permit process can be delayed, while attendees discussed collecting signatures from 20% of the city’s registered voters to pursue a referendum.

The group also considered petitions, legal action, letters to officials, fundraising and protests. Council member Sharri Barr attended to hear residents’ concerns. Organizer Ameigh Denali said the broader goal is to repeal the ordinance and establish a moratorium in Bulloch County or statewide, while some attendees emphasized that their primary objection is the proposed site rather than data centers generally.
