Engineers review handling of storm water after second mud event at Point Pleasant data center construction site
A second significant mud and water runoff event occurred at Nscale's Monarch Compute Campus construction site in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, impacting nearby homes. Engineers are investigating improved stormwater management, while Nscale covers cleanup costs and continues its "Good Neighbor Home program" to purchase affected residences in the Meadowlands Estates subdivision.
Engineers from Thrasher Group and other contractors, along with Nscale Site Manager Jason Bechtle, are reviewing stormwater controls at the Monarch Compute Campus construction site in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, following a second mud and water runoff incident. Heavy rains on Saturday sent mud into the crawl spaces of two residences and the lawn of a third in the Meadowlands Estates subdivision, an event that follows a more widespread incident during Memorial Day weekend.
Nscale has taken responsibility for immediate clean-up costs and is in direct communication with affected families. Bechtle indicated that engineers might recommend changes to existing processes and systems to improve efficiency and prevent future occurrences. In response to the ongoing issues, Nscale has initiated a voluntary "Good Neighbor Home program" and has agreed to purchase 30 of the 53 homes in the Meadowlands Estates subdivision. The company determines purchase prices using an independent evaluation method, adding a premium on top of the highest determined value.
