DeSoto County data center delay: Commission fails to approve 553-acre rezoning near Arcadia
The DeSoto County Commission rejected a request to rezone roughly 554 acres near Arcadia for the proposed 823-acre DCIP data center campus. The decision followed opposition and concerns about noise, water use, traffic, environmental resources and compatibility with surrounding properties, leaving both project rezoning applications unapproved.
The DeSoto County Commission rejected DCIP's request to rezone approximately 554 acres of the Swisher property near Arcadia for a proposed data center campus. The vote came one day after commissioners denied another rezoning request tied to the project, creating a significant setback for the planned 823-acre development.
Residents and county staff raised concerns about potential noise, water consumption, traffic, environmental impacts and the project's fit with neighboring properties. DCIP said it was willing to make design changes and participate in required reviews, while noting that rezoning alone would not authorize construction because additional engineering work and state, regional and local permits would still be required.
