Colleton County reaches settlement, bans data center development in most of county’s ACE Basin areas
Colleton County reached a settlement resolving a lawsuit challenging its zoning code for data centers. The agreement creates a data center exclusion area covering most of the county’s ACE Basin, including the site where the Eagle Rock data center had been proposed.
Colleton County reached a settlement with the Southern Environmental Law Center over a lawsuit filed in January on behalf of landowners Jennifer and Miles Crosby. The lawsuit challenged the county’s zoning code, which allowed data centers to be developed in the area.
Under the settlement, the county will establish a data center exclusion area covering most of the ACE Basin, including areas along the basin’s three major rivers. The restrictions also include an 850-acre parcel where the Eagle Rock data center was proposed in December. County officials said the agreement will help conserve natural resources while allowing the county to pursue responsible development.
