Fort Worth council member calls for creation of data center task force

Fort Worth City Council member Jeanette Martinez has officially requested the establishment of an independent, community-focused Data Center Task Force. Announced in a July 28 news release, the task force aims to prioritize public interest amidst discussions surrounding data center facilities.
Martinez clarified that the task force would operate concurrently with the city's process of potentially instituting a moratorium on new data center developments. She indicated that dedicated community members and subject-matter experts would lead the task force.
A city spokesperson deferred comment until the council's August 4 meetings, while Fort Worth City Attorney Leann Guzman stated that the city has not yet determined the next steps for the task force's creation or its inclusion on the August council agenda. The city council is expected to consider beginning the legal process for a city-level data center moratorium at its August 11 meeting.
