Missouri Group Hires Environmental Lawyer to Fight Data Center Projects
A group in Southwest Missouri, Missouri and Neighbors Against Data Centers, has hired an environmental lawyer to fight proposed data center projects. The group is raising funds for legal fees to review processes, obtain records, and determine legal options to block developments in areas like Joplin and Seneca.
A group named Missouri and Neighbors Against Data Centers, active in Southwest Missouri, has escalated its efforts to oppose local data center projects by hiring an environmental attorney from St. Louis.
Susan Mitchell, an organizer for the group, stated that the legal counsel will assist in reviewing the development process, acquiring necessary records, and identifying legal strategies to halt both current and future data center projects in the region. The group's primary targets include planned data centers at Wildwood Ranch in Joplin and in the Seneca area.
Last month, Missouri and Neighbors Against Data Centers launched a GoFundMe campaign, aiming to collect $15,000 to cover legal and related expenses. To date, they have raised $4,100 towards their goal. Mitchell expressed optimism about their chances, believing they will succeed in blocking these projects, especially the one in Joplin.
Organizers indicated that any remaining funds would be allocated to support other nearby communities confronting similar data center proposals.
